Coals is a young duo consisting of Kacha and Lucassi. The band quickly gained recognition among listeners with the home recordings they uploaded to YouTube several years ago. The duo has performed at many international festivals, including Positivus, Pohoda, Primavera Sound, MENT, Eurosonic, and Iceland Airwaves. Interestingly, during their stay in Reykjavik, Coals recorded a video session for the legendary KEXP radio station at Kex Hostel. Besides, the duo had the opportunity to perform at important Polish festivals such as Open’er (four times), OFF (twice) and Fest.
Their full-length, Polish-language album “Sanatorium” will be released this March on PIAS Recordings, after which they will embark on a tour. So far, the duo has let out the secret by serving us three singles. The somewhat shoegaze “dzwony” takes the listener on a sentimental journey deep into the dark memories of their school years. “nowy świat” is quite an energetic break song with elements of bedroom pop, for which a winter music video directed by Mac Adamczak was created. “Plaza” takes us to an abandoned shopping mall from the 2000s, full of strange nooks and crannies, with echoes of r&b….
During the upcoming tour, Coals will present new material and well-known songs. In addition, they will be joined on stage by guitarist (and bassist!) Bobkovski, and the entire show will be enhanced with special dreamlike visuals. Of ourse, there will be some jumping, some chilling, some crying and some laughing.
Coals’ music is often characterized by a variety of genres (dream pop, chillwave, cloud rap or glitch pop…), but the band doesn’t like to limit itself to specific drawers. Instead, they strive to create eclectic music, and they say themselves that what they do is “cold pop”. Their portfolio includes several musical collaborations with various artists, including schafter, felicita (PC Music), Dianka, Żabson and 88/Brodka. Following the release of their album “docusoap”, Coals received nominations for the Fryderyk Awards and Empik Bestsellers. They also won Record of the Year according to Newonce magazine, and took 2nd place in the annual summary of music journalists in the pages of Gazeta Wyborcza.
